Make Marijuana Oil.

Videos may still be uploading, so please be patient.

There is my photo slideshow and two videos of my Marijuana Oil Extraction Still.
The Still is over 98% finished. I just need to finalize the fittings on glass tubes.
The great thing about this still, is that you can choose the strength and color of the chlorophyll coming through by manipulating the tap.
If you do a quick run and release, you can end up with hardly any chlorophyll. For those who want to extract everything including chlorophyll, you can do that too.
It does not only remove cannibis oil, but oil from citrus, herbs, flowers, spices etc.
It can be used in microdistilling industry for doing absolutes.
One of these photos I am doing a run where I have mixed mint and marijuana together to make an infused mint oil. Some people do not like the taste. Mint flavor makes it better.
In one of the photos I am doing a rendering over a stove. If you use a small mouth jar its the same diameter as the 2 inch Alchemist tower. It is one way of rendering the oil. use a mountain bike tire tube to seal the tube to the jar. The jar is sitting in a jar of hot water. A water bath. It will heat up the product where it will vapor off an recondense through the still.
This still is revolutionary. It is using a clean source, no butane. No denatured alcohols or hexane, or ISO. This will be great to render a product using clean product. They are averaging between 25% return on this, my clients. I do not make any claims or am a doctor or toxicologist. I just build stills and like solving problems, this would have to be the hardest oil to remove. I figured it out through lots of time and am so happy with the results.
I am looking for investors maybe, because this can be done on larger scale and also I want to do it in glass. This still works. It is easy to use, but it is a safe one. I really got something here. I also need to reach out to team up with some experts. I would like to blend certain oils together so they infuse, like for those with upset bellies taking thc in oil form. Mixing mint with that, calms the tummy.

Large Copper Stills

Operational Manual  4″ Alchemist Still and 50 Gallon Boiler by RAINIER DISTILLERS

1.   Safety first- Before you turn anything on, as in electricity, gas or propane, have a fire extinguisher ten feet away from the still. Make sure you have good ventilation in the building. Make sure there are no naked flames, smoking or ignition sources within 25 feet of the still.

2.   Assembly- Make sure you have a partner with you. Have him hold the ladder when placing the tower and fittings together over the Boiler. Treat the Copper Still as laboratory equipment, meaning very carefully.

3.   Filling the Boiler- Please, have no more than 40 gallons of wash. You must not exceed 45% Alcohol in the Boiler, at any time. Before turning on the Boiler, make sure all electrical leads leading to the boiler to the power box are in safe condition (NO bare wires).

4.   Fittings for your Boiler- Check all the gaskets that have been placed, onto the boiler, are in good condition.

5.   Hose connections- Connect these to the cooling tower and the condenser. Then turn the water on to make sure it is running. Check for leaks.

6.   Heating up Time- Turn on breakers to the Electrical box. If you are running 13,000 watts, with 40 gallons of Material, the heat up time will be 45 minutes. This is to the temperature of the vapor of Ethanol 172.4F. Safety Tip: Have an audible alarm temperature gauge set at about 165F to let you know the boiler is coming up to temp. This will give you 10 min. to double check your water is on and you have your filling vessel in place.

7.   NEVER LEAVE YOUR STILL RUNNING UNATTENDED

8.   Liquid Management- The turn tap at the top of the Copper Still should be turned off. Leave this off for 30 minutes for the Copper Still to equalize. We call this reflux ratio. All the vapors will be going through the cooling tower re-condensing. There is no pressure built up in the tower.  This distillation tower and pot is under no pressure. It is using a process just like heat rising.

9.   Product- Now the still has been refluxing for 30 minutes. Slowly open the valve at the top of the Copper Still. Allow the product to come out into the Parrot. Check temperature of the Ethyl Alcohol coming out. This temperature should be no more than 65F.

10. End of the run- When all alcohol has been depleted from the wash, indication would be the temperature is around 208F. Turn the power off to the Still. Turn off the breakers and remove the plugs from the electrical box. Handle with gloves from here on.

Connect hose fittings to the emptying spigot of the 50 gallon Stainless Steel Boiler. HANDLE WITH CARE, this is hot. Or wait until it is cooled down. Once the product has been removed and pot has been cleaned, you can fill up with 10 gallons of cold water and follow the procedures for a steam wash. This will clean still and get ready for next run. Good indication your still is clean, the distilled water leaving parrot will taste like distilled water void of any flavors.

Make Lavender Oil

All these oils on my blog were done with my four inch essential oil STILL.
Above is a video I did of some photographs that were given to me. I did a private party, a demo in Yelm, Washington, and there was a photographer there who took some photos. It was a lovely day. The weather is real nice this time of year. That’s my lavender oil after one run. They had different varieties of Lavender. 2 Varieties, Folgate and Melissa, nine plants. The one in the video is Melissa Lavender. The plants were three years old and plus. I did many runs. I did not get to see all the oil photos, because they had to freeze overnight and drain off the oil. But it was alot. I love these photos that were sent to me. I am posting them here in a video and also to my photo. account. http://www.flickr.com/photos/54396803@N05/
I am open to coming to people’s farms and teaching them locally or even at Lavender Farm events.
I use lavender oil mostly for bug bites my little girl has, like mosquitoes, they instantly make the hives feel better. Its very calming. Its anti bacterial. I am used to the fake lavandin oil sold in stores, a hybrid, all my life. This real lavender, pure uncut, does not smell soapy like detergent. It smells rich and sweet. It is very potent..
My little girl opened the oregano oil by accident and now everything smells like oregano. She loves essential oils. I taught her how to appreciate them and smell everything. She knows aromas.
We have friends that carry Doterra oils and they swear by essential oils. Everything from depression, sleeplessness, and “baby blues” new mothers seem to get. I bought some new books on essential oils with charts on how they work and what they are good for. It would make a great business and from what I see people are making money selling these oils. Aromatherapy is a business kind of like alternative medicine, that says these oils can cure things.
There are alot of scams too, I find, in lots of stores, also about essential oil purity, the rampant dilution. essential oils mixed with other carrier oils, and especially with Lavender. It is hard to find the pure stuff. Thats why its important to “do it yourself”. Most of the notes I smell in essential oil shops, I smell burnt notes and just awful stuff, for sale at 17 dollars a spray bottle. I know now, with my nose, what is a pure oil or hydrosol is.
I see these little bags sprayed with scent sell for 12 dollars each.
You can also flavor food as well as drinks. I bought from a lady back in Australia about 50 oils for cooking. Onion, Garlic, Tumeric, you name it. One drop will do. Its mostly for fragrance. The box they are in smells very savory. People are hesitant to put it in food, because they do not know much about this. But it is easy to learn.
My friend Bonnie puts it in her soaps. She also sells a hydrosol made out of catnip for cats. Imagine that. You spray on stuff your cat will go crazy.
I also work with solvent extraction, but my 4 inch copper still, is basically steam distillation.
A lot of Vodkas are flavored with drops of essential oils. It is easier than infusions.
I also did a video later on, of my distilling essential oils -yesterday in last nights blog. I put it here to fill up some space, instead of in yesterdays entry

Make Essential Oils at Home

First BUY A COPPER ESSENTIAL OIL STILL! The still itself you can get HERE

Your water should have been heated up by this time.
It will start distilling. Make sure you that you have turned the water on going through to condenser to cool down the vapor which is steam, distilled water, turning into a liquid.
You can tell by experience by the smell of the hydrosol -when to turn the heat off. For beginners, fill up pint jars, and half fill them, and then put a new pint jar under the
condenser, and you will understand the first and second will have different smells.
The more you run the still the earthier the notes become.
Turn the tap and drain the hydrosol until you get to the oil line.

The way I do it I did a slideshow here for you guys.

I distilled Oregano Oil today, and also Wild Mint and some Cedar. I also made a combo of cedar and mint. I made this cedar oil for my lady who hates bugs. Apparently bugs cannot stand this stuff.

SEE THIS VIDEO HERE on reaction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hcJB_6hwhU

The dogs we have get ticks and fleas from the woods, there are mosquitoes, and ants. She sprays it on our animals and beds, basically everything and uses the hydrosol to comb in her hair when she goes out hiking. Hydrosol is just some essential oils and water mixed –that cant be separated. Like “lavender water” or “rose water” . Cedar smells strong and clean-smelling. Like a cedar chest my parents kept all our stuff in when I was little. Also mold cannot grow on anything that has cedar on it.

( This is Bonnies Essential Oil Separator, I have had my personal one for so long now)

I used the four inch essential oil still. Or otherwise known as my pot still 4 inch.

If you have just the pot still or any still, you can use copper mesh so the plant material doesn’t fall into the boiler. But the Essential Oil still comes with a copper basket.

I took enough photos. I am not sure I can post them all here, there are so many.

Here is a slideshow. Please watch by clicking on it.
It is a HOW TO, or an essential oil still manual in photos…

My weekend farming

I just had a baby a week ago. I apologize for those I have not called back, or appts I blew off, or orders not out fast enough, I am a week behind. I had a baby. Well, not me, my lady. It is little girl. My Lady’s labor was very powerful to watch, help out with and very exhausting. I been a little sleepless and had to help out with babysitting our other children, and organizing and getting help from outside. Very tough, you that know- know. We did this at home, with a midwife helping, and she came at 4 am. Add me on Facebook to see her photo.

Anyways, the weekend  last, I went to Prosser, WA to visit www.blueflamespirits.com. Check out their beautiful website.  Purchase a bottle because you are buying a bit of of American Tradition in raw form. This is rare in alcohol industry. They have a great variety from grappa which was my favorite and won a gold, and brandy, they have wheat whiskey, vodka, and rye whiskey.

I am shooting a video of them called From Farm to Bottle. The farmers they get their product from, did the last rye cutting so I had to go meet them- and film it.This is the beginning of the video.  I interviewed one of the family members, of fourth generation wheat harvesters. They are cutting white wheat and rye for  BFS distillery. It is a fascinating interview. I will have the whole video up when I complete the fascinating distillation process. Here are some photos I took.

The combine I rode in.

Back to the farmers. This is the actual wheat the farmers use to sell to the Blue Flame Spirits distillery.
He gave me the history of these combines, Like John Deere 95. 300 bushels this holds in the grain tank. These have gps in them and can drive themselves. They plant the winter wheat in the fall. They have summer stuff as well they plant early as June. It takes almost a year to grow this stuff. 2000 acres of wheat a year they grow here. This year they have a light crop and low yield because of drought and frost. 80,000-100,000 bushels of grain usually is grown. This year they are somewhere in the 50,000. Drought put a damper on this one. He explained all the types of wheat like soft white, for noodles..he says Japan was a big customer before this whole GMO thing came in. It didn’t hurt the market as bad as they thought. Then hard red winter..this one is harder, has gluten in it. This gives it the dough elasticity. Then SOFT RED…this grown in Midwest, Mississippi river area. Those are three, then spring reds then spring whites. They do the same thing, but planted in Spring.

They also grow RYE. But I can’t give away too much info on this. This is a type that produces excellent yield in alcohol and flavors. This is secret of the distillery.

www.blueflamespirits.com

They said the government offers them a safety net program, a federal insurance policy. They have their average yield and then pieces of the farm that goes under the average, the government pays them. But they have to buy into this in insurance. So these farmers do not get it so easy. They work very hard.

The great grandfather built their house and the white school house he pointed out, he had his great grandmother teach in it. All wheat farmers.

He showed me his great grandparents’ homesteads. Can you imagine living on the same property with same houses and 4 generations of your family? They all farmed- on that property, back then with draft horses. T
hey had teams of 16- 32 — in the same heat we were in. They pulled the combines, and it took 5 guys to run it. They would have men come along to sack everything, even some sewing the sacks. Some men came along with a team of mules, then, to take down the sacks, to storage houses until more men in cars came to pick them up. So about 20 men or more- all together doing- what one combine does today. WOW. What a great story. Amazing.

They were liquor drinkers and Teetotalers ( those who abstain) All of them going through prohibition as well. There were those in family who made beer during that time.

He told me about some diseases wheat gets occasionally that makes the yield smaller. Alot of this covered in the videos.
In that area there are 90 registered voters. No town is there. Every so often a new town comes up.

They also save their seeds. They put them in grainaries. They save the cleanest.

————

Someone asked me this week, ” Why is it my alcohol turns cloudy, when I proof it with water?”
I say the reason is when proofing alcohol, you need distilled water, which is as clean as you get. You need water devoid of minerals, dead water, you can get at the supermarket for $2.50 a gallon. Using tap or well water to proof your alcohol will make it cloudy. Proofing means taking alcohol and mixing it to a drinkable proof like 45% and then proof with alcoholmeter. Lets say you have a 5 gallon bucket with 2 gallons of 90% alcohol. You want to take this to 45% alcohol. You will pour two gallons of distilled water and mix, now you have 4 gallons of a drinkable product. If it is still turning cloudy with distilled water, you either have too much of the tail endings of the run.

Another person who bought my 4″ Still ( all size stills really act the same)

Make Moonshine, Alcohol Moonshine Still for Micro Distillers

which was calibrated for 15 gallons an hour asked me, ” Why is this only producing 7 gallons an hour?” .
If it is only producing 7 gallons an hour that means the ABV of the wash is too low. Or there are not enough BTUs going into the pot. If the ABV of the wash is at 5% it, it will come out slower than a wash that is 15%. Measure your ABV of your wash with a triple scale hydrometer. Or you need to raise the amount of BTUs- which is British measurement for heat.

————

Someone called and asked me how long does it take to make some “Moonshine”.

I have lots of videos on youtube on how to make a simple wash, and all about the fermentation. I even have a step by step article with photos. But here- I will write it out in words too.

A simple wash, for moonshine, alcohol or ethanol -for beginners, like with sugar granules or crystals, or molasses..

You can buy sugar at say, Cash and Carry, for 27$ for 50 lbs.

This will take 5 days to be complete.

20 gallon batch

18 gallons of water

3 bags of Turbo 48 yeast ( aggressive yeast)

Stir once in morning and once at night.

Will give you 16-18% abv.

190 proof after putting through a still

If you put through  Copper Pot still, you have to run 3 times, to get 190 proof- or 85%

If you put through 3″Copper still,  you will get 90% on first pass

If you put through a 2″ Copper Still,  you may have to run 2 times- to get 90+ %

All this depends on beginnings- and what kind of copper still you have.

SO, the exact way to do this is- you need 50 lbs of sugar for a 20 gallon batch. You put in 10 lbs of sugar to start, in water at 110F. Make sure this dissolves. Then, put in next 10lbs  (until your 50 lbs of sugar is reached). Then, fill up remaining water, stir until it dissolves. You wait until the water cools down to 80F. Pitch in two bags of Turbo 48 yeast. Stir 1 time in morning and 1 time at night for 2 days. ( Some people like to get heating belts to cover their buckets, they plug in and this keeps it warm, or you can cover with blankets- your bucket. People also like to put an airlock so air releases gently.) Then after two days, pitch in the 3rd bag of Turbo 48 Yeast, and stir remaining 3-4 days 1x at morning and 1x night for 2 minutes each time.

Put this mash in your boiler, with a funnel if you need to, and plug in the wall the electrical elements you have installed on your boiler. Or turn on your propane or wood fire, whichever you use. Put your still on and condenser. Plug in your garden hose and your outlet hose to the red and blue hoses attached to your still.

SO to go over what we spoke about:

20 gallon wash @ 16% ABV will give you 2- 10 gallon runs ( in your 15 gallon keg boiler)

Each 10 gallon wash distilled will give you 2 1/2 gallons of 90% at 180 proof.

So that is a minimum of 4-5 gallons of moonshine in 5 days using Turbo 48 yeast.

Do not forget to throw out the first 100 mls of final run. That is the acetones, smells like nail polish remover.

Rainier Distillers Copper Stills are not like anything on the Moonshiners tv show. Mine are industrial reflux, professional stills converted to smaller size. 40-20 feet stills, brought down to the size of home or distillery sizes.

All Rainier Distillers Copper stills work the same. It is just different

Amount of product you want to produce

How quickly you want this to come out

The percentage of Alcohol

All can be taken apart and converted to a pot still.

3″ inch Rainier Distillers Alchemist Copper Still

—6 1/2 foot column and the 15 g keg boiler is 2 feet- so total is: 8 1/2 feet.

—This comes with everything like a pot, all hoses, packed with copper mesh, thermometer, elements, fittings, and tower.

4″ inch Rainier Distillers Alchemist Copper Still

—Minimum 50 to 100 gallon Boiler

—10-15 gallons an hour

—10 feet tall

—Minimum 9,000 watts

–210,000 BTU Burner for propane

People ask and usually they just want to know how to make moonshine  I assume you want to have this valuable, life saving, knowledge, too, if you are reading this. It does come in handy in, lets say, a big global emergency. It might even protect your family and save communities, give gas to cars or pay wages. Just to know this, does not hurt anyone.

QUESTION: I am interested in your two inch still with the reflux column. I am interested in producing as pure a ethanol product as I can. In your videos I did not see a way to fill the boiler during the distillation process. I seems to me that a filling point could be introduced at some low or midpoint in the column. Please comment.

ANSWER: No filling is at the top of the keg. You put the still column on after you fill it. There is a two inch hole. You can also request cleanouts to be added to your order. Here is a lazy boy keg. I have a video on this too. It has a filling spigot and emptying spigot to make easier. We have videos on the youtube channel on this as well. HERE IS LINK
——————-

Question: I assume you will always have plenty of liquid left in the boiler when the distillation process is essentially complete? Do you determine that the process has completed based on the observed temperatures primarily?
ANSWER: If it is a ten percent in a 14 gallons of liquid, you have removed about two gallons of product. That will leave you with 12 gallons. Usually the process is complete when you go to 208f. You can go 209-210 but you are going to gather a lot of fusel oils. Which are called “tails” They have unwanted smell.

QUESTION FROM EMAIL:

We are looking into converting our boiler from gas to electric, so we
are in the market for an electrical controller. Looking around, we
saw the new troll controller you are offering, and are very
intrigued. It seems like a pretty ideal device, so we are excited
about the possibilities. We’ve watched the video, and are still a bit confused on how exactly
one adjusts it to the thermal characteristics and performance of
different stills. Specifically how you adjust the feedback loop/
damping function to tune the controller for different devices and to
manage effluent product flow rates. We also have the additional
challenge that coolant water in TX is not often as cool as we want it;
and since we recirculate water to conserve, the coolant inlet
temperature will vary throughout a daily run.
Would you be willing to share the product instruction manual so that
we might wrap our heads around how it works and how we would be able
to use it? Or any more detailed information sheets you have about the
device? I think that would be very helpful.

ANSWER (FROM JEFF BISHOP)

First of all, there are several different types of electric control methods.

The first one is probably the most common.  It uses high power relays and has some de-bounce built into the system for cycling them on and off when you are at your set point.  Runs the system in open loop control.

The second method is to control is the phase angle of the power going to the heating elements.  What that means is that you are running the system in a closed loop environment.  This type of control would give you a much more precise method of control due to only allowing the amount of heat required to run the process out to the heaters.  This is typically controlled by what is known as a PI, or PID controller.

The third method uses zero crossing phase solid state relays.  This method allows the heaters to be turned on and off at a frequency that is needed to maintain the set point.  This method is also very accurate and gives you a great deal of control.  One of the down sides to this type of control is the “dimming” of the light effect that would occur with other items in the system.

Our Still Troll System has the ability to control multiple loops at the same time, with monitoring alarms and alerts built into it.  There is an LCD screen on the front of the unit that describes what is going on during the complete process.  We have the following options built into it.  Warm-up timer which keeps track of how long it taken to get up to the production temperature; Alert light/horn letting you know that you have reach a specific level, or point in your distillation process or alarm; Configuration jumpers that allow you to use multiple elements to get you up to production quicker, and then allow one precise element take over control and maintain it;  The ability to incorporate water flow, and or cooling temperature loops using the same control system; Production timer, lets you know how long you have been at production temperature;  Simple “strip”, &
nbsp;“Custom”, and “Finish” runs built into the system that allows for complete user control of how you would like to run your still; as well as many other features.

Our standard still troll would consist of (1) Phase angle (#2 up above) type heating element, and (2) relay type elements that are used to expedite the heating process to achieve production.  We can add or delete more heaters to this unit as the customer requirements dictate.   Standard base on all heaters in this are 4500W 240VAC single phase heaters each.

One of our options that we can include in the commercial still troll system is our remote support/data collection management package.  What this allows is by using a standard DSL internet connection you would plug the still panel into your router.  Upon needing to make a change, or modification we can log into the panel and make changes, or improvements, or troubleshooting.  One of our future tasks is that we have this system designed where you can load and maintain recipes to our web server, as well as view/change actively using a smart phone, tablet, or PC.

The current system still troll was in research and fine tuning for over two years before it was released to the market.

We have been in business doing process controls/electrical engineering since 1995.

*** If you made it through this blog, great. I just ask for one thing–pass http://www.blueflamespirits.com/ along to friends and family.  A bottle always makes a great gift—or add them on facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueFlameSpirits

Copper Stills Update

I was working with two micro distilleries this weekend. One my friend Tom, for his distillery, he bought a 3 inch vodka still that is ten feet tall with the 15 gallon boiler. Here in this photo we disassembled the three inch tower into a POT STILL. We got together and we did a stripping run with his mash. For this still can be disassembled- and made into a pot still, by taking off the extensions. As you can see in the background there is the 3 inch tower leaning up against the wall.
In this photo we are throwing out the first 100 mls.

It is a turn key ready to go still. You pour your wash in, plug in wall, turn on the water, and lets make alcohol. Here at Tom’s new distillery. One extra modular takes the still ten feet tall.

He bought it for experimenting, learning, test
batches, new recipes to make a vodka. I will keep you guys posted on him. He had a beautiful write up in the newspaper I read when I went grocery shopping once, HERE IS LINK HE IS AT THE BOTTOM and we were friends on Facebook HERE HIS PAGE. ADD HIM and get the word out about him. I cannot talk about what these people are doing for wort. Not until I can get the a-ok.

Sunday I delivered a copper still and 50 gallon boiler to another distillery, as well. This guy really has done his research, my goodness. Its a pleasure to speak with someone that has passion I do. He bought a 4 inch still and 50 gallon boiler and a Still Troll. He knew a lot about all the other distilleries in WA and what they were doing. He told me many things. He knew what stills they had and what they were making and prices they spend, and everything. He spent alot of time interviewing for what still to go with, and he chose Rainier Distillers.

He was quoted many tens of thousands of dollars for stills. I
think it was 50 thousand dollars for a still to distill liquor to
produce 100 cases a month. And he said, “Well I know a company (us) that says they can have a still that produces the same amount if not more for around 8 thousand dollars.” Really it only cost him 6 grand. They told him it could not be done. I was really amazed at what people are spending out there. People just do not know or they choose to have sexy stills that cost a fortune just for show, but they do not always promise you a gold medal or successful label. SO be wise and be careful.

And through research he came across distillers that were using stills from known companies that are producing ten gallons in a fourteen hour period—all the way up to $250,000 thousand dollar stills that are producing 200 or more gallons of finished product in a day. I am saying the latter is good, but you have to spend that much money. When the still he just purchased from me, will do ten gallons in ONE hour. The amount of money you spend does not guarantee success. I am not here to bag other companies at all- but just letting you know to save you money and time. I thought wow maybe I should charge more for my stills, but no. Please do research, find your niche in the market.

You do not need to compete with big corporations, in fact the big corporations are scared of you. Absolutely!! BIG BIG COMPANIES are buying up small local distilleries. To get into the micro industry. So you guys are a growing business, just like the beer industry in Portland 8 years ago- the beer that was sold and drunk in Portland, was made outside of the city and now..today 60% of the beer bought and drunk is all made inside.

I am so humble he chose my still. This guy is amazing. His name is Brad. He bought a four inch tower with a 50 gallon pot and and a STILL TROLL.He built his shed around my still. Its beautiful, but I couldn’t take photos, for he has not finished yet, with painting etc. It will be amazing when he opens. We just did a steam water run and he is going to be making beer wort 250 gallons of beer wort into a whiskey. I also want to come back and experiment with flavors with him.

These new companies are coming in with alot of enthusiasm. I am so grateful to be hanging out with these guys and be a part of something huge. I will be visiting both of these distilleries as much as I can. It’s worth the drive to come see and distill
liquor in my stills.

Cowlitz river is another distillery I just love. They are doing a
malted corn whiskey. I get international emails asking, for example.. ” Anthony, if you know anyone making malted corn whiskey who can help my distillery, I will offer  free Carribbean vacations for their families”..so I will pass
their email on to them when I see them. I love the networking.

Lots of people call me, and ask me so many questions that are so interesting. I wish I could remember all of them. People ask when am I going to bring out a perforated plate still. I have been sitting on design for 2 years. People call and ask how do you distill? I sit and walk them through it.

 Lately I been helping
people build their own still for a hobby, and they call me about getting parts or about aging liquor.

I have been letting people know there is a great
company in NY called 1000 Oaks Barrel. If you get one of their one liter barrels, you will have an aged liquor within a few short months. It will taste far better than any product that you will buy. They do 1,3,5, 10 etc..and they can also custom
lettering and logos for your distillery. I have bought one of
them with “Rainier Distillers” burned on it and my logo.. I use when I go to shows or conventions, because its promotional.

I get alot of calls, will my pipe to keg
kit fit from a 2 to 3 inch pipe. And yes it does. All three inch
pipe fits in a three inch coupling, same as 2 inch fitting.
Also available is a 2-4 inch copper pipe to keg kit.

I have been working with bottles of samples distilleries give me. I have been kind of obsessed with flavoring vodkas and whiskeys with infusions, but also adding oil extracts from fruits, spices etc. It is alot easier than infusions. Alot of companies are doing this, like with cinnamon whiskeys and citrus vodkas. They are using oils. Not infusions.

After many years of distilling essential oils for my lady
friends, with my 4 inch still, I know a little about this. Some
distilleries have sampled my flavors, these are not essences, for those are synthetic. Most synthetic oils and essences that
companies are selling to flavor alcohol are made in such large
quantities, that quality is not always there. It would be cool to be able to distill your backyard and also flavor your product
with pure oils from the fruit, herbs or spices. I have even
tasted Douglas fir vodka, Wild orange lime lemon lavender vodkas, Cinnamon, Vanilla, and even Jalapeno whiskeys. If you guys are interested in me doing videos on this or even have opportunities, let me know. Let me know what oils you want me to experiment with that I can make in my four inch still. There are around 40 of these oils available to experiment with in my area.

You can throw parties at your distillery and give the women these to taste and sample and test out. Adding oils to liquor does not make it oily. Its literally a drop of oil that homogenizes with the alcohol. I would love to work with distilling companies just experimenting.

This also includes the medical oils out there and flavoring the
“medical marijuana” leaves themselves with spearmint, orange, or let your mind run wild. I am just into oils lately. Also with Xylitol candies, flavoring medicinal marijuana oil health candy business ideas with the local business people. But thats another blog.

I have been working on that medical oil still. It has to be safe, its about as dangerous as a pressure cooker, not really, but you have to be mindful.

I am reading about all these people trying to make medical oil, who are blowing up bathrooms with butane. I just spoke to a chemical engineer and he was stating that butane cannot be removed from medical marijuana oil, if that has been used to extract the oil.

My still is all natural. There is no butane in my process. No poisonous chemicals. I have searched youtube and this still is one of a kind. Why would you want to use a poisonous substance to render a product. Especially for health reasons.

Even RS oil process, its just too expensive
to do it that way, and my still and my process is very cheap and you can use the cut offs to make a grade product. Its not
essential oil process. It is totally different. It will attach to
the Alchemist. It will be around 800$ I think but I am not sure. I just have to make
this safe and use the best glass and do a full manual and video and photos. The guy who blows glass for all the glass pipe bongs in WA state contacted me. He wants to work with me. I just will build this still and do it safe. I will not worry about anything else, but let others do the medical part and research for me. I just build stills. I just extract oils.

My custom continuous stills are under pressure as well and I have experience. Its like a pressure cooker. You have to be careful. But many women use these and are fine. You just need common sense. There will be glass so you know exactly when to turn it off, when you see everything extracted including the thc. I can also extract the chlorophyll which is a huge deal in that business. This was not easy. You can have a choice distilling with the chlorophyll or not. Its all due to the amount of time. I will explain all this in a video and manual that comes wit
h the still. I am not sure I can post it online but will come with purchase. Just the nature of this business. I am doing this because it is the future and to help our local economy, and people to make it more accessible.

I have permits for plants and medical. My clients helped me get these easy.
Everyone is excited to buy my still extension to the Alchemist. I also have still manufacturing companies already that want to trade with me their head for this oil still head and I say SURE, there is amazing still companies out there making amazing stills. I definitely want one of each! As art and to make ethanol..some of them are so beautiful, made all of copper and nice shapes.

I also distilled some hops cascadia to remove the oil. Great for you beer brewers. Maybe you can add this to your liquor. I have not much experience- just being an Alchemist and seeing what comes out. I used my medical oil 2 inch extension to do this. It is just a different way of extraction. Only beer brewer people will understand what this is and does.

Got this photo in my email inbox today, the subject of email: “2

inch still results using the Still Troll System“.

The guy who

makes these still trolls is amazing. I am so glad to have him in

my life. This is a really good reading. WTF 95% Its out of a 2

inch still. I am going to ask him the temperature to see if this

is correct. I mean this is what he does this stuff for.

Spokane on the Rocks Craft Distillers Convention

I went to a craft distillers convention this past weekend as a vendor. This was in Spokane, 5 hours away from Rainier. I took me and my family and we stayed in a nice hotel.

This was the first SPOKANE ON THE ROCKS EVENT they had- here next door to HOOPFEST,  the biggest basketball event in the entire world. Mobs of people. Hardly dressed, all muscular. Everyone had a basketball they were bouncing around. There was even a Slacklining competition, in the park, me and my family saw, the day before Hoopfest.

Here is the sign.

Anyone who has not gone to a craft distillers convention or tasting- you must go to one, and support your local distillers and local beer makers. Its like a farmers market for alcohol. Very fun! See stills, meet with people and taste new local organic products infused with the spirit of the distiller. This one had a tasting and you could talk to everyone. Freebies and food. It was all day Saturday.

Here is my set up Friday Morning. 2, 3, and 4 inch stills, with different options and fittings to choose from on the 15, 50, 100 gallon boilers. It took me about three hours to set up with a ladder, I kept talking and answering questions during this. I was put right in front of the door. So the first thing people saw were my stills. It was very nice.
Photo: Setting up at a convention center. My stills will be first thing you see when you walk in. I was interviewed by Spokane news station last night as well.

I met Rob Holman, genius marketer.  I wonder if I can afford him for my work, he did an amazing job. I couldn’t believe what this guy is capable of. This is going to be a big event in years to come.

I had dinner with him, and other distillers that were vending, the first night at Luigis, a local Italian restaurant. We drank beer of course. I talked about how micro distilling hasn’t even started yet. I learned that the government needs to support the industry more. I also need to research more and become active in this area myself. We all talked about finding niches in the market for it is not about competing with the big whiskey vodka rum corporations, its about making a better product in smaller batches. Not to make a shitty product, basically, that is the niche!  I made friends with some people.

Rob got me on the evening news and set me up with reporters. They asked me  many questions. I was very nervous. It was also a heat wave in Spokane. But I think that is normal for Spokane.

( IF you want to see my interview it is exactly 4:00 into this VIDEO   -click on that!)

The day of the fest there was a thunderstorm so there was a guy videotaping and he got hit by lightning. WOW.

There were so many people I was so busy- it was hard to take photos. There were Hooters girls there too. Some people waited a half hour to speak with me. They saw me on the evening news the night before and wanted to know what I was saying in my heavy Australian accent. So they came in. They said you sound really excited about something.

Many guys wanted to buy these stills straight out, and I just couldn’t do it, they already belonged to clients of mine. I kept getting pressed..and asked, even offered more money. I got many compliments on the stills and boilers.

Some of the beers there too were amazing.

Anyone who was single would have a good time here, lots of girls. Band aids over their nipples etc, from the Hoopfest.
They all came in to drink. Next year I get better photos!

I talked to many people looking at the industry. People were inquiring and talking about how difficult it is to start a distillery and about all the applications for state and federal permits.

They were all asking about other stills manufacturers and differences. Mine is the best I said. Just kidding! But really, you can make a bad product with any still, and you can make a great product from the simplest still. Its all about the individual person- on how much detail he puts into fermentation and distillation.

There were people who are building their own stills. They wanted to know how to make the spiral condensers in the 3 and 4 inch and I taught them there. One gentleman had bought a still which was window perforated plate and he wanted to go from a deflag to a spiral condenser. To knock down vapor.

I also spoke with the other vendors, we had good conversations. Mostly about labeling, how expensive it is with taxes. Talked about the amendments Canada has made that have reduced these fees on distillers.

I learned a lot of things from them.

I brought a Still Troll, a custom one specially designed for a client to show off here. Made by Jeff from BCS Technologies. He is a genius. I cannot believe he is on my team, he usually works for multi million dollar companies.

You must visit these guys, BLUE FLAME SPIRITS!

Blue Flame Spirits

What a great name, and brilliant card –and people. I think personally their brandy was the best I have tasted that has been made here in USA. They invited me up to see them, I am going to film and post here, how they make their products from farm to bottle. I will even bring my pot still up there to play around with myself. If you have any questions out there -about making a rye whiskey, a wheat whiskey and brandy..I could ask these questions to this distiller or this farmer for you for my video. I met them and found myself really impressed with them.

Iron Goat beer was great, I could drink it all day.
Iron Goat Brewing Co.

I got sent home with lots of free bottles. I also got free t shirts I will be wearing in my future videos. It was nice to be with people who love to do what I do, the big boys, my peers.

At first meeting everyone, I got to hear all the nasty gossip about who stole whose recipe, who and when they got permits, who did what and not, also..on Costco giving millions of dollars to change the tax laws to mess up all the distillers, the 1128 tax laws. But I am not sure on the exact details on this. But someone is dicking someone. I would rather not say anymore until I know exactly.

After the event we were all brainstorming ideas and working together. I am sitting down with them saying how can someone copy someones recipe..when it comes down to very small windows of temperature, what produce you are using, and from what location? Really..its so hard to identically make the same product. So do not be worried so much.

These guys were there too, SoDo Spirits Distillery
Remember in my blog I took a distilling class there a few years back?

Spokane is beautiful. With lots of parks and flowers. On the way in there was wild sage growing everywhere on the highway sides.
Thanks for reading my blog. ANTHONY

Next year -I invited all my local distillery friends to this event, they said they will be there. You can meet them all.

Distillery Equipment Copper Stills

The Alchemist Four Inch Copper Still, I ran at a new distillery I am working with, we’re running test product. It is a vodka
coming out at the end of the year.
Well, my still made a 96% vodka, a huge improvement from 95% and this still doesn’t cost of tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars, or looks pretty with windows, or looks like it is 17th Century,  it is just FUNCTIONAL. My still is affordable. I know people personally who have spent
450 grand on German stills that do this very same thing. And look at my little still compared to that one.
I worked on this still for years. And, with all my stills, the potential is there, for the 2 and 3 inch as well.
There was a few things I did, I can go on about at a later stage. Its all about LIQUID MANAGEMENT ( I just made a video I am posting here with a 3 inch Alchemist) and packing the column a certain way. There is also COOLING MANAGEMENT, which will come in another video, another time. I shot a video tonight about how and when to use the liquid management. Its
really something with practice you can
master.
The temperature of the alcohol-was ranging anywhere between 53F degrees and 55F, so what you do- to bring it up to the baseline
of alcohol- has to be 60F degrees of alcohol, so we add 2 points. Works out to 96%. I am extremely excited.
TO GET accurate ABV.
The meter comes with a graph on
how to read the abv. ( For example at 55
degrees we add two points)
The reason I
do this is so you have no disinformation out there, some people will show you a high abv, but do not show you the
temperature- and when you actually measure it correctly- it is alot lower! Do not be fooled by this when purchasing a still.
( FOR EXAMPLE: 85F you have to minus ten points, so if they tell you its doing 90% at 80 degrees F- According to the chart you have to minus ten points, that is 80% abv!)
In the design of my still you can get 96%. And the great
thing about this 4 inch is— it is doing 4 gallons
an hour…at 96%.
All my readings I have a thermometer there so you can see the temperature of the alcohol.
Alot of people out there, run their still fast, and bring up the temperature of the ethyl alcohol, which may be measuring 80 degrees F- so if you change the baseline which is 60
degrees, see on table, that means you are probably minusing 8 points to get correct alcohol reading, so they may be running 75% alcohol.
The higher the temperature you minus the abv, the lower- below 60, you add to the abv!
I do not want to bullshit the market. I do not want to lie to anyone. I want to be above board, honesty is best policy and I want to keep this.
Anyways, the distillery owner of this still is so excited. Did I say it was doing 4.2 gallons an hour?
I cannot release any information yet, as things are still in R&D
( Research and Development). I was not allowed to take any photos of the distillery. Its the 4 inch Alchemist. I am
just excited and blown out. Working with this still for 3 years, been working out the bugs, I definitely have nailed it. I also changed the style of packing. Its 10 foot still and alot is played around with, about how you pack the still inside the
columns that helps with the abv inside.
Running a still that is producing 4+ gallons an hour at 95-96% abv, now that is where you can start making moolah in a micro distillery!! If you can run this thing ten hours a day, that is forty gallons a day. At 190 proof. I am also available with purchase, to guide and educate those distilleries out there.
Also there is “liquid management” which I do a video here
(Video done on a three inch Alchemist) so the potential is there for 2, 3 and 4 inch Alchemists. They all work the same. It may be still uploading when I post this, so come back.
We have a compound reflux still, liquid and cooling management, that is pumping out 96% ethyl alcohol. You guys are going to LOVE this still…or alcohol I should say. This was pumping out 4.2 gallons an hour.
This is classed as a EUROPEAN VODKA at 96
and above, or a “Russian Vodka”. I tasted
it tonight it was clean clean clean! There was no odor.
Simply amazing.
I am excited my still can produce a TRUE VODKA. This is what this did. Equivalent of a EUROPEAN VODKA.
Like I said, it is all about getting to understand the behavior of this still. The still works. You have to understand how it
works. The balance between liquid management and the
amount of btus. It takes practice. I am available to educate all master distillers on my still or even set up.
This vodka is going to come out in the market soon. I guarantee when this hits its going to do very well.
Running a still the first time is like when you got a drivers
license. You couldnt do anything but focus
on the road 6 months later you got a coffee, a texting and steering the car with  your knee. The more you use, the better you get at it.
This is affordable, designed for American Distilleries. Who can produce a vodka still, at this price, for a ten foot tower?
Nobody else, I dont care, this doesnt have sexy windows or perforated plates. This is pumping out 4.2 gallons an hour at 96%  Come on guys Tell me! I will leave it at that.
Testing a copper parrot in my yard, this before polishing.
Thank you ANTHONY ZACA
Hey all you people in Seattle, My good friend Cory, I did a video with him, he is doing a basic distilling class at his distillery. Please go support local master distillers.

Update of Medical Marijuana OIL Extractor coming soon.

Part 2 of this blog here http://blog.rainierdistillers.com/2013/03/13/distilling-hash-oil-for-medicinal-purposessmall-business.aspx

This is for those who want updates on the Medical Marijuana Oil Still I have, the Extension to the Alchemist..look I am running a month behind. I am just trying to make this still safe. It has to be made of glass so you see what is running through it. I tried to get around it, but no, has to be, because you need to see the action to determine when you are going to empty the vessel. Its under pressure this one also, I just have to make this safe guys. I cannot sell until I know for sure and its been tested approved by those in the industry.

It is not the same as essential oil basket, different process. It is not the same thing.
This is not an essential oil still. This has been the hardest oil I have ever been trying to get out. To keep the integrity of the oil from the whole of the plant and not being selective. This is going to be for medical purposes. Its been tested, see my past blog about it, and its my clients, who are working with me, who have their permits, for distributing and cultivating, have found the dispensaries sell this, and ask for more. True, amazing, but it works, also a spray tincture of thc. I work with these fellows when I get a chance to see them. They have lots of shake they turn into an a grade product. Shake is something normally thrown out.
10 lbs spent product, two gallons of rendered product and each quart will give 40 grams.
It will all be sold as a kit, including the rendering part you just put on top of a rice cooker.
Beautiful photo of spent product burning. Nothing left of it. All thca removed.
I distilled with them 10 lbs of shake, we got 320 grams of what they call medical grade oil.
I was told not to talk about medicine, healing people, cancer, and to let others do this for me.I just build stills. I just take oil out of plants. But I have seen unexplainable things with this herb, why I took this on.
I am not in that business. I just make stills. Alchemy is my passion and when I say I can take the oil out of anything, its a challenge to me.

People say if this does what I say it does, that will be the only still I will be building. I love distilling. I do not keep any product. I do not keep any oil. The arrangement I have is when I see these clients on Medical Marijuana farm, I get product to test with, and they in return get product they sell, and eventually get to buy my first still.  They are dying for it. But I am so busy doing other stills, and taking orders, events. Its hard to do this fast enough. That is all I do. Build stills.

Those who render this product with acetone, isopropylene, and butane, etc..this is poisonous. Why would anyone want to render a medical product using poisons?
Ran into this guy at gas station! Spoke with him for a while. I loved his car painted in flowers. It is now legal in Washington State to have Marijuana even recreationally. I think to set a stage for businesses and small growers. Soon will see large scale growers I think as well and bigger companies. Its all about the business and our economy.
Hey guys, watch this documentary it covers everything. I watched it, its 4 hours. I watched with a friend and was blown away.
Thank you ANTHONY

Best Moonshine Still -the improvements

My copper moonshine ethanol still keeps evolving to get better and better. As you see from my photos, the Alchemist has gone through many changes. From the old 90 degree angle to 45 now, different limbic comdensers, rubber, and other things.

This time I made my 2 inch just like the 3 and 4 inch Alchemist distillers.  I make it now so it can be separated to function as a pot still and a reflux traditionally. It did this before, with a turn tap, but now it will look like a pot still or a reflux. See the video. My changes cost me more now to build, but for same price to you guys. This last change I did is to make so you can separate the tower from the upper to lower. This will make it as a traditional pot still  as well as reflux. Its interchangeable from below the temperature gauge. Can you see where the new clamp is? This will be easier to ship too- especially to overseas countries,

,,and this is the same still turned into a pot still!
This is my favorite photo, what a beauty!

Here is detail of the top of the tower. The red hose is hot water and the blue cold. You hook these up to your garden hoses, see my videos on this.

Here next there is a ferrule between the upper part and lower part of the tower. Disconnecting the lower part of tower will make it function AND look like a traditional pot still.

Here below is a detail of the connection. You can also buy a copper pipe to keg kit to put in your own still on your own kegs,

This still is exactly like my 3 and 4 inch stills now.

I have been wanting to make these improvements for a while. Above is my photo of the new version Alchemist 2 inch with 3 extensions plus the still. The higher the still the cleaner the product and higher the proof. Each extension extra is about $130.

Here is what the new moonshine still tower looks like.

Here is 7 gallon version as a pot still and a refllux, for making high proof ethanol or vodka:

I have also been working on my medical marijuana still. Its not really a steam distillation, its totally different. That will be out June 6th. Today I met with some partners in that industry who told me today that what this still produced for them was excellent., They have been taking their product to vendors and replacing Rick S’s oil with this. All the graphs and technical aspects shall be revealed for it is at the university with toxicologists.

I am meeting Sunday with another distillery -we will see what happens.

Anthony Rainier Distillers Higher the tower- higher the proof!
To those guys who think they have a moonshine still, wait til society breaks down, and you got an ethanol fuel machine for cars that will run one family car and support a whole town on moonshine.
Who is going to be popular in town?

Happy Distilling! Please email me if you have questions. I am always available if not building stills.
